Sumatra is included as a friend who contributed the second largest economy in Indonesia

Pojok Pos. The stretch of the Sumatra economy turned out to provide a real contribution to the Indonesian economy. In the notes of Bappenas, Sumatra Island is the second largest economic contributor in Indonesia after Java.

According to the Head of Bappenas Bambang Brodjonegoro, Sumatra's contribution to the national economy was around 20 percent while Java was 58 percent.

"Sumatra has the potential of natural resources in the fields of agriculture, plantations and the better infrastructure," said the Head of Bappenas, when giving a presentation before the governor and head of the Sumatra-based Bappeda in Padang on Friday (11/23).

With this support, Sumatra should be able to grow faster in the economic field and contribute more to Indonesia's economic growth.

For this reason, regional heads who run the government in Sumatra must have a vision to reduce the gap between Java and outside Java.

"In fact, I imagine when the contribution of Java Island was reduced by around 50 percent, it would be achieved by 2030-2045," he said.

According to Bambang Brodjonegoro, the development of Sumatra can be done from the industrial sector, tourism that is superior in the area, but only better management so that economic growth will be achieved.

He added that economic growth in Sumatra was centered in the capital city. It is estimated that in the next five to 10 years, three metropolitan cities in Sumatra will emerge, namely, Medan, Palembang and Padang.

"Medan is the first area to become a metropolitan, followed by Palembang and Padang. This area will be the center of growth in Sumatra," he said.

To support economic improvement, the government has budgeted funds to build the Trans Sumatra toll road. Currently new development starts in North Sumatra, Palembang and Lampung.

"The construction of the Trans Sumatra toll road is in synergy with industry and tourism so that the road is useful for supporting the development of tourism objects," said the former Head of the Fiscal Policy Agency, Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia.

Meanwhile the Deputy Governor of West Sumatra, Nasrul Abit, as reported by Antara, added that the West Sumatra Provincial Government and the Padang Pariaman Regency Government are conducting discussions regarding the land acquisition of the Trans Sumatra toll road.

Previously, compensation for land with a length of 1.6 kilometers could not be agreed upon and proceed to another location.

"If residents agree, we will pay compensation and the construction will begin," said Nasrul Abit.
